Bovine Beginnings
1950’s & on
A farm can embody various meanings, and The Horse Shoe Farm, with its auspicious location, has a rich history of fulfilling that meaning for its various owners.
Although its use has changed throughout the years, its bucolic nature and simplicity have always remained at its core. After clearing the land to create pastures in the 1950’s, The Horse Shoe Farm became a thriving cattle farm, flourishing for the next 40 years as a bovine paradise. This era would also see the construction of the manor house, silo, and farmhouse barn.
From Work to Play
Late 1990’s
When the Mullis family purchased the farm in the late 1990’s, it transitioned from a working farm to a hobby farm. While Belted Galloway cattle and quarter horses speckled the fields, the real attraction became the dozens of classic Corvettes, vintage Chevys, and array of antique motorcycles that filled the barns.
A family compound in every sense, the Mullis family turned The Horse Shoe Farm into a collector’s playground, hosting car shows and events throughout the year, and building numerous dwellings to accommodate their guests.
Turchin Transformation
2017 to now
When the Turchin family bought the farm in 2017 they were captivated by the breathtaking beauty and serene elegance encompassing the property. With a desire to complement the authentic essence and natural landscape, the Turchin’s transformed The Horse Shoe Farm, with its 85 acres and over a dozen structures, into a private retreat.
Open to guests looking to experience the magic of this sanctuary, The Horse Shoe Farm is designed as an open palate ready to fulfill and facilitate any of our guests desires and be their ultimate home away from home.

No strangers to North Carolina, the Turchin family fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1970 and made it their second home from then on. Combining their passion for this exquisite area with their creative instinct and unique taste in architecture and design, the Turchin family created a one-of-a-kind luxury mountain community, The Lodges at Eagles Nest, in Banner Elk, NC. A 1,350 acre inspired mountain retreat, with altitudes over 5,000 feet, The Lodges at Eagles Nest was created as a place where residents would be reminded of their childhood summer camp days, but with an unmatched sense of luxury and distinction.
Good fortune brought the Turchin family to The Horse Shoe Farm in 2013, where they were astounded by the endless beauty and sense of peace rooted in its grounds.
Feeling a deep connection to the bucolic nature of the property, the Turchin’s acquired the farm in 2017, with the desire to embrace the intimate setting and share it with the world. Open to guests looking to experience the magic of this sanctuary,
